Dear HEC UK Alumni,

In November we had a wonderful evening with HEC professors about the ‘War for Talent’, and our participants followed a journey – attraction, retention, trust, innovation and change were key words that evening!  Trust, innovation and change – this is actually also how we are feeling at HEC in the UK, as we are now in the middle of the works for the HEC UK HOUSE, in the Hexagon Building, in Holborn / Covent Garden. We can’t wait to celebrate this HUGE project with you all in Q1 2023!  Until then, you can read a few more details below about the purchase of the HEC UK House, YOUR HEC UK House in London!

You will also find details of events in December for the UK Community:  Blockchain, Wine club, Energy transition & climate tech with The French Tech in London… and of course our WINTER PARTY on 17th January 2023, more details to follow soon. If we don’t see you in person in December at one of these events, we wish you and your families a very happy holiday, and look forward to a very exciting new year for the HEC UK community!

Kind regards,

Your HEC in the UK Team

FOCUS OF THE MONTH : YOUR NEW HEC UK HOUSE IN LONDON

London hosts HEC’s largest alumni community after Paris with more than 4,000 graduates and over a hundred events organised each year. As you know, HEC in the UK is very active thanks to alumni events and the School’s UK representative office which has been actively contributing to the power of the HEC brand through the promotion of HEC programmes, students and professors. This international brand presence will accelerate further once all HEC activities are brought under the same physical roof.  Since 2019, HEC Alumni has been planning a property acquisition in the heart of London and the project has been validated by its General Assembly. The project team, led by Frédéric Jousset (H. 92), then HEC Alumni President, and initiator of the project and Adrien Couret (H.07), his successor as Alumni President, showed an amazing determination despite complex circumstances dealing with Brexit and the post-covid era.

The last investment of this scale took place in 1994. 30 years ago, HEC graduates worked collectively to purchase the Association's premises on avenue Franklin Roosevelt in Paris, led by Didier Pineau Valenciennes (H.54) and Pierre Bellon (†H. 54) and joined by hundreds of Alumni donors who shared his vision. It became an essential Parisian meeting place for the HEC community and fostered the development of the Alumni network and services for graduates. HEC Alumni is taking a new step by purchasing a new house in London, highlighting the international dimension of our network.

The whole HEC Ecosystem brought its full support to the project: HEC Paris will have its team working from the House to organise events and meetings with Professors and students, as well as Executive Education workshops and start-up incubation. The HEC Foundation got involved as well and brought together generous donors to finance the project.

After a two-year search, HEC Alumni identified the ideal location. It is a superb 412 sqm space in the "Hexagon" building, located next to Covent Garden. After a phase of fit-out work to shape the premises to the needs of the HEC community, the "HEC UK House" will offer a large space dedicated to Alumni club events, conferences and workshops and the school will host its staff, hold masterclasses, receive student study trips and conduct executive education programmes. The HEC Foundation will also be able to organise events for its donors. For alumni living in or visiting London, opportunities for meetings and networking will be offered.

“The HEC UK House is a new cornerstone to HEC's international strategy and allows our network to reach its full potential outside France. It will strengthen the involvement and commitment of Alumni and it will contribute to making the HEC network one of the most powerful in the world. I would like to thank all those who contributed to this project, as well as the generous donors of the HEC Foundation, who support our international development” emphasizes Adrien Couret (H.07), president of HEC Alumni.

Words from...

Karim Saddi (H.97), HEC Alumni UK Chapter President and Delphine Mourot (H.03), HEC Paris UK Office Director

Karim: The UK Community is very active and rely on an amazing volunteers’ network and dynamic clubs: Wine, Finance, Green, Women, Emerging Markets, Entrepreneurship, Sport, Art, Digital, Governance, Blockchain, MBA and Generation Start! The UK House will play a central role to host our Alumni activities. You are all very welcome and we can’t wait to host you in our new House in London!

Delphine: The HEC UK Office is part of HEC Paris International department and aims to support the international development of the School, to enrich student life and to involve the HEC Alumni community. We are looking forward to having our own HEC UK House and to increasing the impact of our missions.  Today it is still a building site but we can’t wait for the opening in Q1 2023.

Nathalie Gaveau (H.99) and Mathieu Gaveau (H.98), Alumni donors

Nathalie: I have been involved in the launch of the HEC incubator at Station F in Paris. When the HEC Alumni Committee started to look for properties in London, I activated my network and we were able to position ourselves at Hexagon. I am very proud to support such an amazing project as a donor and help foster a strong international environment for the School and develop the London ecosystem, in the same way as we did at Station F in Paris.

Mathieu: As President of the UK campaign committee of the HEC Foundation, I am very proud to share that we mobilised over 25 generous donors to support this amazing project, starting with Frederic Jousset (H.92) who led the way! All our best wishes of success and development to the new UK House!

Anne-Valérie Corboz, HEC Paris Executive Education Director

For over 40 years, HEC Paris Executive Education has supported the growth and development of organisations, through its mission of impact, its research, its teaching excellence. It is about accompanying companies as they pursue their quest in how to lead with purpose for a responsible, sustainable, inclusive world. We want to inspire, influence and impact leaders, so that together we can co-create this. HEC’s “artisan, haute couture soul” is a key asset to be able to offer truly customised programs and the new HEC UK office is offering new possibilities and opening exciting opportunities.

On Wednesday 23rd November, HEC in the UK, together with the Executive Education team from HEC Paris, organised interactive workshops on the “War for Talent”. The very insightful workshops, which were followed by a cocktail, were also the opportunity to celebrate our ranking successes -Triple #1 worldwide by the Financial Times – with our community in the UK.

A big thank you to all participants, the HEC Paris team and our 4 HEC Professors: Anne-Valérie Corboz, Dean of HEC Paris Executive Education, Gachoucha Kretz, Associate Professor of Marketing, Brad Harris, Professor of Management & Leadership and Martin Schulte, Associate Professor of Management & Human Ressources.

CLUB HIGHLIGHTS

HEC UK ART CLUB: 2 NEW VOLUNTEERS IN LONDON

We are relly pleased to welcome Eléonore des Pomeys-Anselme (H.2019) and Tessa Masliah (H.2020) as they are joining the UK Chapter and volunteering for the UK Art Club!

We were super happy to welcome them at the UK House for a site visit last week!

Eléonore graduated in 2019 from the MSc in Creative Industries (Programme Grande École). She has been living in London since her graduation, working as an analyst at MADE before going to a specialised data consultancy based in Paris, Fifty-five. She has just started a new role in the entertainment industry in the Global Content & Commercial Strategy Team at Warner Bros Discovery.

Tessa has a background in Private Law and Art History and she progressively built her career around the luxury, visual arts and crafts industries with the conviction that a work of art, like a precious object, contains both a know-how and a unique and valuable story. Tessa has been working for the Institut National des Métiers d'Art (INMA) as Marketing and Development Manager from Dubai for a year. She came back to London a few weeks ago and she continues her work of promoting and supporting the French craftsmanship of excellence in the UK.
