Amid the increasingly evident climate extremes occurring worldwide, Professor Gemenne will address the most pressing issues of energy geopolitics, international climate negotiations, and climate governance, focusing on their implications for Europe, the UK, and global leadership. He will explore the ecological backlash and public support, and the feasibility of the 2025 net-zero targets. His talk will be particularly timely in the lead-up to the UN Bonn Climate Change Conference next month and COP30 in Belém later this year.

It pays to use AI on the sly at work
A recent Financial Times article highlights how employees are secretly using AI tools like ChatGPT to boost productivity—often outperforming peers, but facing bias if their AI use is disclosed. Research by HEC Paris professors Cathy Yang and David Restrepo Amariles found AI-enhanced client briefs scored 10% higher, yet were rated lower when reviewers knew AI was involved. To counter this stigma, firms like Shoosmiths are incentivizing open AI adoption, offering bonuses to encourage transparency. Full article here
The Price of our Values – The Economic Limits of Moral Life – Augustin Landier and David Thesmar
The Price of Our Values is an economic reckoning with the universal unease of contemporary moral life. Wielding insights from the philosophical founders of the field, Landier and Thesmar provide frameworks for thinking about the place of values—justice, freedom, beauty— in the decisions of modern life. Augustin Landier is professor of finance at HEC. His research is largely focused on behavioral finance, asset management, banking and corporate finance. He was awarded the 2014 “best french young economist” award. He is also active in the public policy debate, was a member of the French Council of Economic Analysis (2010-1012 and 2014-2016).
