With over 25 student athletes participating, we engaged in a display of competitive spirit and athleticism. Every year, the event is drawing more than 2000 individuals from Europe's elite business schools to Vallendar. The three-day event combines culture, competition, and collaboration, with a side of networking with global companies. Our German Society hosted a fantastic gathering, bringing a slice of Germany to over 250 students on campus. Everyone dressed up in ‘Trachten’, giving us a real feel for German traditions. We rolled up our sleeves to bake Bretzeln, served up some delicious Hendl, and raised our Paulaner beers in cheers. The atmosphere was just right: friendly, fun, and a little taste of German culture. Here’s to another great Oktoberfest and everyone who joined in! | Announcing: HEC Alumni x Students Wine Tasting | Looking ahead, the German Society is excited to announce an exclusive Wine Tasting soirée in late January/early February (exact date tbd). This intimate gathering is intended to take place at the Maison HEC in Paris, where alumni and students will have the opportunity to connect over a curated selection of fine wines. This event promises to be an enriching experience, blending the zest of current and former HEC students. | Your support matters: join HEC new auditorium fundraising campaign! Since the fire that destroyed the Amphi Blondeau, many of you have come forward. We have been deeply moved by this outpouring of solidarity, and we collectively decided to give this amphitheatre an even more central place at the heart of the campus project, which will start in 2025. The school has decided to rebuild an 840-seat auditorium, to make it the "heart of the campus", to open it up to the future public spaces of a new iconic building, with greater ambition than was originally planned in the future Campus project. Today, it is no longer just a renovation, but a reinvention!
All of this, of course, is yet to be built, but we have a wonderful opportunity here to make something even more magnificent with everyone's support. HEC alumni and friends, students, your donations are crucial to the school, and even more so in the context of this project, as they will shape the campus of tomorrow. We hope that many of you will participate in this project. | BECOME AN ADVISOR TO GUIDE STUDENTS DURING THEIR INTERNSHIP In order to respond to the school’s strong desire to further support students during their internship, HEC Talents wishes to expand the community of school advisors for internships - they are looking for additional 150 school advisors by February. Your main tasks would be to support one or more interns (estimated workload of 1.5 hours per intern) to ensure their internship goes well, to listen to their feedback, to contact the school in case of any issues, and to be a signing party of the internship contract. Read more. | Private equity and venture capital firms: an AI arms race looms ahead Though many sectors in finance adopted algorithmic decision-making quite early, venture capital (VC) and private equity (PE) were much slower to pick up on artificial intelligence (AI). Thomas Åstebro, Professor of Entrepreneurship at HEC Paris, recently published the Journal of Financial Data Science with Portfolio Management Research (2021), wrote a paper analysing the quickly changing landscapes of AI in PE/VCs. In it, he points out how AI is expected to rapidly transform these sectors in the coming years. .
