We are please to invite all of you for an arty cocktail evening in the beautiful Gallery Christophe Person (HEC 04) in the center of Marais, not only to discover the splendid and powerful summer exhibition : Mame Coumba Bang by Nyaba Léon OUEDRAOGO, but also to exchange with Christophe for his passionate life and career path.

A graduate of HEC in 2004, Christophe Person worked long years in the Asset Management and Bank until he left the finance world to pursue a Master of Art Law and Business at Christie's education London in 2014 where he wrote his dissertation on African art market. After launching the contemporary African art department at Piasa in 2016 and directing that of Artcurial until 2022, for which he remains a consultant, Christophe Person opened his eponymous gallery in December 2022, specializing in contemporary African art, in the very heart of Marais.

Christophe wishes to distinguish himself from other galleries working with African artists « by avoiding commercial production with a repetitive aesthetic, even a little too easy or catchy, and by giving pride of place to a creation that stands out from trends and fashion effects. »

Given their origins and their life trajectories, African artists have the ability to bring a very relevant point of view on the state of the world. Many people share their lives between the African continent and the West. This dual point of view gives them a better understanding of societal issues, whether they are related to questions of identity, the environment or the flow of goods and people between the North and the South. Many of them have the potential to create a dialogue with the whole world.

About the exhibition Mame Coumba Bang

For two years, Nyaba Léon Ouedraogo, a photographer from Burkina Faso, traveled along the banks of the Senegal River in the city of Saint-Louis, in search of the traces of the goddess Mame Coumba Bang. This series marks a turning point in the practice of the artist, who claims to be a griot of another kind, the transmitter of an oral heritage, the witness of the myth of Mame Coumba Bang, divine protective spirit and provider of the inhabitants of Saint Louis.

Mame Coumba Bang: "myth for some, legend for others"...

We will discover this beautiful exhibition with the presence of artist Nyaba Léon Ouedraogo and the curator Marie Moignard
