The HEC Paris Chapter is back!, we have lots of cool stuff planned for the rest of 2021, and we hope to see you in one of our events soon. To kickstart our agenda, we have an itinerary conceived by the amazing Nikki Wang (MBA 2010), cofounder of cultural agency TheWaysBeyond, to discover The Fontainebleau domain "off the beaten path".
HEC International Paris Chapter is very pleased to announce this activity and bring HEC members a very special day out to discover this magnificent region, her splendor and hidden gems.
One hour drive away from Paris, in the direction of Fontainebleau, this part of Île-de-France has long attracted women and men of letters and arts in search of an inspiring greener area to withdraw from the Parisian crowd. The proximity of the forest of Fontainebleau and the Seine River gives this region a somewhat gentle and wild elegance, directly radiating from the château de Fontainebleau. For centuries, many artists and noblemen left remarkable traces in this region, others remain unjustly overlooked. But the region itself never ceased to renew and evolve. The schedule of the day runs as following:
First stop Private Visit of Painter Rosa Bonheur’s castle
Second stop: Lunch on a charming terrace of Barbizon village (pay as you order)
It will be about lunch time when we arrive at Barbizon village, and the tables are already booked! The restaurant we reserved has a huge and lovely terrace, the food is good and the price is more than reasonable! Let's share this precious moment of conviviality and the "come-back" to normal life. You just pay on the spot for what you order as Lunch not included.
Third stop: After lunch discovery of Barbizon village
We will have plenty of free time to discover this insanely charming village which owes its fame to the 19th-century landscape painters Rousseau, Corot, Daubigny and Jean-François Millet who lived there. Their artistic movement, the Barbizon School, was considered a precursor of Impressionism that we can certainly feel by simply walking in the street!.
Last stop: Fontainebleau forest
Saying goodbye to the artist village, we drive into the Fontainebleau forest, a former hunting park of the Kings of France covering an area of 28,000 hectares, is a haven of peace for nature lovers. We will make do some light "bushwalk" in the great nature and stop over some viewpoints and famous rocks before heading back to Paris.
We will travel in individual cars, which will force us to split the group into small subgroups. If you have a car available, please select one of the (discounted) spots for "HEC contributors with a car".
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Where: Meeting point to be announced (in Paris)
When: Saturday 26th June at 9h
What to wear: Sunscreen/hat/cap. Comfortable shoes to walk in the forest is mandatory, NO HIGH HEELS.
Cars:We will split the group in different cars. 3 Alumni have already offered theirs. We are still looking for 2 or 3 more. If you are coming and you have a car we can use, please email me at msaborio@gmail.com.
