Is Technology amplifying gender inequalities or a lever for women's empowerment?

French, Iranian and Afghan women speak out

Despite the growing importance of digital technology in the economy, women are still in the minority, both in France and worldwide. According to data provided by the Grande Ecole du Numérique, in French Tech start-ups, less than 10% of the founding teams are 100% female, and only 18% of management positions are held by women. Worse still, more than one in three female students in the technology and digital sector have been discouraged from choosing this career path, due to the persistence of sexist attitudes and stereotypes.

And yet, according to the United Nations Observatory, 75% of the jobs created between now and 2050 will be in science and technology.

So how can we encourage and support women and girls to enter the professions that will shape tomorrow's economy and society?

We invite you to take part in these discussions:

Thursday 22 May from 8.30am to 10.00am (*)

Galerie Bourbon,

79 bis, Avenue Marceau, 75116 Paris

(*) Welcome from 8.00 am.

For a round-table discussion to be held in English with :

This event will be an opportunity to hear from female entrepreneurs from France and Iran about the obstacles they have encountered - and the levers they have activated - to create and develop their digital projects. We will also see how technology, when used to help educate girls, is proving to be a powerful accelerator of equal opportunities and empowerment, as demonstrated by UN programmes aimed at young Afghan women.

The debate will also be broadcast by videoconference (Connection details will be announced at a later date).
